time out

i am a restless soul. i am an explorer. i go about the day with thoughts of new things to experience, new places to go to, new food to taste, new music to listen to... i am poor with people, with commitments, and with almost anything else. all i do is for my own gain. i am selfish, i guess. caring for nothing but for myself does not only incorporate selfishness, it also shows a lot of how i grew up.

i was an only child 'till i was eight. i had lived in a world that i controlled. i was the sole captain of every actions i made back then. i even taught myself to read after mama bought me a cheap 5-page literature of the alphabet.

i remembered, mama once left me alone in our house when i was 5 years old. i did not cry. i took pleasure in the thought that mama trusted me, and i was big enough for that kind of responsibility.

even my yayas told me before that i act matured. they always felt like talking to me was like talking to an adult. i guess, my actions were influenced by my surroundings. my constant buddy back then was my tita, that's why. we would always watch movies, plays, etc., and eat at fine restaurants. sometimes, i got to meet her friends, and i would usually eavesdrop in their conversations. from then on, the world of sosyal kolehiyalas became a constant part of my matured childhood.

so, as a result, i grew up refined, and shy. i kept my thoughts and ideas to myself. perhaps, i always felt that i was just a kid, and there were far better people than i was. the good part about it, however, was that i somewhat became like them - independent and life-seeker.

now, as i think of how my college life pans out, i realize i am slowly shifting away from what i am. instead of celebrating my independence and freedom, i am constrained in the small world of rules and commitments. instead of experiencing new things, i am putting up with routine. i am a life-seeker, and that is not how i perceive life. as i said before, life, through my eyes, is water cascading through valleys, and mountains; rivers, and seas; happiness, and freedom.

time out. i can hear monica saying, "i told you so."
