13-17 (now vague in my memory)
i wish we'd stayed in this place for a longer time—days, months, or years— because here the memories were the best such as walking along the stretch of the city of dreams past midnight while steadfastly tripping over disfigured ghosts of the night. they say they sell flesh, pure and untouched, in different amounts, at different costs. with unflinching eyes and unfaltering strides, they revealed the city's inner physique only visible when the sun sets and the clock strikes 12. i told myself that this is a fairytale city, and remembered now how cinderella's clothes turned to rags at midnight. darker and darker, into the reserved depths of a woebegone tale of the fairies, i swept away the bitter remnants of hong kong and fell swiftly in love with macau in a trance
these are the things that are still steel-solid in my mind:
(1) hiking up a hill: up, down, down, up, down; 16 of us walking in line to reach the historical city square infused with postcolonial elements eg a baroque catholic church, cobbled stones blanketting narrow streets, european accents in city design
(2) eating beef curry, portuguese spaghetti, and tomato soup; & drinking green grass jelly tea, almond tea, and coke at the 3rd floor of the building adjacent to kfc in the city square
(3) getting dizzier and dizzier under the winter christmas lights
(4) wrapping up the body with the lingering scent of genuine leather wafting out of bauhaus
(5) checking out stores, all quirky and different from each other, like the one that sells swarovski-encrusted winnie the pooh heads in iphone cases
(6) being reminded of bakwa. digression: are those really bakwa or sausages and hams of all kinds?
(7) climbing up the church, taking pictures—digital and analog
(8) using the loo, braving the fear of pit and squat toilets
(9) going back home aka hotel via riding the shuttle bus from hard rock hotel to the airport, then into a taxi, while the weeknd's the morning played on loop and accompanied me to a night in my now favorite country
(10) reaching the hotel, every muscle tired and overwhelmed
now this you must remember: i travel back to macau nowadays via listening to the weeknd's the morning
